It came to my attention that readers not taking advantage of the superior Firefox web browser and/or Mac OS where having some difficulty appropriately viewing my site. Using my trial and error knowledge of HTML I belive I have corrected the problems. In doing so I had to make the banner picture at the top larger which, I belive, significantly reduced its visual appeal. So, I have a few questions for you, my tiny audience, particulary returning readers, who, my stat counter tells me, there are a very few of. Questions are listed in order of relevance to me.

1. Were you having trouble reading the site before the weekend? If so is it better now, or not?

2. If the page looked fine before are there now significant layout problems, i.e overlapping text, columns out of place, major areas of white space?

3. Is there anyone with a greater knowledge of these technical issues than I have (that would be almost anyone) who is willing to offer some minimal assistance or advice?

4. Overall how does the page look? Any comments?

Please post your answers in the comments section below. Thanks.

UPDATE: The next day

I've re-worked the banner. There's a new graphic, which I like, and my name is more visible, though I'm still not sure about the colour. Is black best, or something else? Friends and relatives know that I'm totally colour blind, so colour suggestions would be helpful.

First of all, if your evaluation of what constitues a 'lesser' web browser is as accurate as your evaluation of what constitutes a Smith, I'll stick to my Internet Explorer thank you very much!

1) Before the weekend, everything on your site was spread out vertically... there wasn't enough room allowed for your posts to show lateral to your blogroll so they just appeared before.

Now that problem's totally solved & everything appears like I'd expect it to.

4) I think the page looks fabulous, much more polished than before. However, I do agree that by enlarging your banner graphics they really lost their appeal. I'd suggest either finding another way around the banner size issue, or finding another graphic, because as is, it looks much lower quality than the rest of the page.

1. I had no problems before. (Am using FF.)

2. The layout is still fine.

3. I am not the guy you need for technical advice.

4. Yeah, the banner looks like crap now. Everything else is fine, though.

Hey MF,

Wow, prolific amount of material since wednesday. I have no time today to post any real comments, but I will try to tomorrow.

1) I use IE and there is a big white space at the top before any posts show up. Otherwise the page is great.

2) The graphic is good, but I would move your name into the bottom left of the graphic so that it doesn't overlap any of the great lakes (where the picture is heavier in print).

Happy you made it back to blogging. I don't know if I ever will.
